Symposium of Current Art

Date: August 10-22, 1999
Location : Moncton, New Brunswick
Status : Confirmed

The Symposium d'art actuel is an artistic event of international scope, bringing together a large number of artists from the Acadian francophone community as well as francophone communities in Québec, Canada and other parts of the world. The program includes five components made up of activities developed around a single theme: Careful, the Mascaret does not whistle. The Mascaret, a well-known natural phenomenon in Moncton, is a tidal bore that rushes up the Peticodiac River every day under the influence of the tides.
The main component of the symposium, the artistic component, will feature sculpture. Drawing inspiration from the Mascaret and its history, the sculptors will create works on site at various outdoor locations. The other four program components will deal respectively with wave, description, oral communication and the media, and documentation. During this great celebration of creativity, to be held August 10-22, the public will be invited to enjoy a veritable tide of activities in the city of Moncton.
