Languages and Law Days were organized jointly by the Quebec Research Centre for Private and Comparative Law, the McGill University Faculty of Law and the University of Moncton law school’s centre for legal translation and terminology (CTTJ) under the auspices of the National Program for the Integration of Both Official Languages in the Administration of Justice (POLAJ). Languages and Law Days comprised two main activities:
•a developmental seminar on French law linguistics, including a series of practical workshops on legal writing, translation and terminology;
•a symposium on the theme “Harmonization and dissonance: language and law in Canada and Europe” that focused on the role languages play in similarities and differences between legal systems arising from political and economic integration in light of the Canadian and European experiences.
