Forged from bonds of friendship between France and Canada formed in the tragedy of the Second World War, the first France-Canada Associations were founded in Toronto in 1948 and Montreal in 1950. Today, France-Canada Associations are present in many cities in both countries. Each year, all members of these associations are invited to gather at an international convention. The France-Canada Association of Moncton will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 1999 and will host the 49th France-Canada Convention, which will focus on the start of the French presence in North America, 395 years after the founding of Acadia by Samuel de Champlain.
