The Grand Rassemblement de la Jeunesse Francophone was open to young Francophones around the world, as part of World Francophone Day. A panel selected two young people from each country and government in La Francophonie, based on a questionnaire. The successful candidates were invited to Geneva, Switzerland to meet His Excellency Mr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie, on March 20, 1999. The young people had an opportunity to discuss issues that concern them with the Secretary General and to celebrate World Francophone Day together.
