National Francophonie Week

Date: March 15 - 26, 1999
Location : throughout Canada
Status : Completed

National Francophonie Week is a huge celebration for Canadian Francophones, hosted each year since 1993 by the Association canadienne d’éducation de langue française (ACELF). Under the theme “La francophonie canadienne: un passé composé vers un futur simple”, the event provided an introduction to the diversity of Canada’s Francophone communities, united by the same attachment to French language and culture. This event, which coincided with International Francophonie Day on March 20, 1999, launched a host of activities and celebrations designed to:
•expand opportunities for speaking and living in French;
•establish a sense of membership in La Francophonie;
•recognize the achievements, talent and diversity of La Francophonie, which gives Canada even broader international exposure.
National Francophonie Week highlights the benefits of increased use of French in all sectors of society. It also strives to foster interest in reading and writing while improving the quality of spoken and written French.
