Visa

A valid passport is required for entry into Canada. You are strongly advised to check with the Canadian Embassy accredited to your country of origin about whether you need an entry visa. This procedure must be carried out at least six weeks prior to your arrival in Canada.

Summit privileges and immunity

As participants in the Summit, representatives of member and associate member States and governments, representatives of observer States and international organizations, employees of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and experts carrying out a mission for the OIF are given privileges and immunity under the Foreign Missions and International Organizations Act.

Temporary imports and duty-free items

As a visitor to Canada, you can bring with you in your luggage certain items for personal use. You not have to pay duties or taxes on these items if they are declared upon your arrival and taken with you when you leave Canada. Limited quantities of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are also authorized for personal use during the stay.

However, the importation of certain goods into Canada, including such items as illegal drugs, firearms, ammunitions, fireworks, meat and dairy products, animals, plants and plant products, fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as certain food and drug products, is prohibited. No exception is made.

Technical equipment

Certain rules may apply for temporarily importing production equipment items such as cameras and editing units. If you wish to transport technical materials, you should check the temporary importation rules first so as to facilitate your entry into the country with your equipment.

Health and insurance

It is not necessary to present a certificate of vaccination to enter Canada. With regard to prescribed medication and possibly having the prescription renewed on site, it is imperative to have a copy of the doctor's prescription or have the prescription label on the container.

Visitors to Canada are entirely responsible for the cost of health services received.
