Make way for the XII^e Sommet de la Francophonie

Greening

A greening program has been implemented as part of the XII^e Sommet de la Francophonie to raise the awareness of stakeholders attending the Summit and to contribute to the international effort toward sustainable development.

In addition to raising awareness, the greening program is aimed at reducing waste production and offsetting the greenhouse gases (GHGs) generated by the planning and implementation of this event. To this end, various practical means have been put in place and call for participation by delegates and media representatives, notably by applying the "4 R" rule:

• Reduce – Paper use is reduced to a minimum, particularly by allowing delegates and journalists to take only the documentation of interest to them, rather than distributing copies automatically. In addition, meals will be served on porcelain dishware, rather than disposable plates.
• Recycle – Summit sites are equipped with selective waste collection facilities.
• Reuse – Many everyday items (clothing, stationery, pencils, etc.) will be collected and donated to charitable organizations when the Summit ends.
• Reclaim – Composting bins are available to participants at the Québec City Convention Centre to allow for collection of leftover foods.

To reduce GHG emissions from transportation, delegates and media representatives are asked to use the shuttles or coaches made available to them.
