Québec City will host the XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie from October 17 to 19, 2008.

What is the Francophonie Summit? Who attends? Who are the members of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie? What body is responsible for organizing the XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie?

Young students' talent featured at Summit!

The Secrétariat d'organisation du XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie showcased the talent of tomorrow's designers. To promote the Summit, these budding artists designed:

  • a vest for volunteers;
  • a pin for some participants.

Last January, the Organizing Secretariat invited a class of 22 students from the École de mode at Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy to participate in a project to create a sleeveless vest as part of the Développement de produits pour le milieu course.

After pre-screening the projects, the school submitted four designs to the Organizing Secretariat. The winning design, created by Ann-Mary Hawey, includes a women's and men's style. Both are grey and display the Summit's logo.

Elyss Cuir Inc., a company established in Québec City in 2002, produced the vests.

In March, the Petits bijoux de la Francophonie contest was launched for students from two jewellery schools in Québec City, École de joaillerie de Québec and the Centre de formation professionnelle Maurice-Barbeau. The purpose of the contest was to design a brooch or pin to be worn during XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie.

Eight of the 21 students enrolled made submissions for the contest. Their designs were evaluated by a panel comprising two Organizing Secretariat employees, one representative each from the host government and partner government, and two representatives from the jewellery schools. One design was chosen for the Summit.
