Québec City will host the XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie from October 17 to 19, 2008.

Raising awareness among participants, reducing waste and offsetting greenhouse gases (GHGs), the Secrétariat d'organisation has put some green rules in place to contribute to the international effort towards sustainable development.

Traffic changes around the Centre des congrès
From Friday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. to Sunday, October 19 at 10:30 p.m., traffic near the Centre des congrès de Québec and Place D'Youville will be restricted:
The Secrétariat d'organisation du XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie showcased the talent of tomorrow's designers. To promote the Summit, these budding artists designed:
a vest for volunteers;
a pin for some participants.
Monday, October 6
French being honoured
Artistic performances, discussions about culture and French language, exhibits and films will bring Québec City to life from October 8 to 12, 2008. The purpose of the second Forum international des Caravanes francophones is to promote the cultural diversity of the international Francophonie by giving people the opportunity to exchange with creators from 25 different countries and celebrate the French fact with them.

Canadian youth involvement in La Francophonie
From October 12 to 18, 2008, some 100 young Francophones from Canada and abroad will get the opportunity to meet and hold discussions amongst themselves. As part of the "Pour la pérennité des idéaux" forum, these young people will be significantly involved in the Summit through exchanges and meetings, but also through their participation in celebrations of Francophone diversity.

Postage stamp commemorating the Summit
On October 15, Canada Post will issue a postage stamp to mark the XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie. This commemorative stamp features a photograph of downtown Québec City and the names of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie's member countries. Information about the new stamp can be found on pages 12 and 13 of the latest edition of Details, the Canada Post magazine (PDF, 4 MB).

La Francophonie through children's eyes!
La Francoderole, the largest work of art created by Francophone children, will be produced as part of the XIIe Sommet de la Francophonie. This huge banner will be painted by about 100 primary school students (under 12) from the Québec region, and will depict a variety of Francophone-related themes, reflecting the vision of La Francoderole's founder, painter Jean-Pierre Arcand.

Promoting intangible heritage
Good news: one full month will be devoted to Léopold Sédar Senghor and the promotion of intangible heritage! From October 3 to 29, 2008, the Francophone countries' intangible heritage will be promoted through exhibits, a gala evening, a fashion show featuring diversity in La Francophonie, and African cuisine. These events are open to the public and will be held at various locations throughout Québec City.

A postcard in the colours of the Summit
20,000 postcards in Summit colours will be distributed in over 100 public establishments in Québec City, such as some shops and restaurants, a few bistros and cafes and video clubs. The campaign will take place during the four weeks leading up to the Summit. What a great way to promote La Francophonie.

Vues d'Afrique
From September 14 to 20, the largest Francophone continent will present its films at Québec City's Musée de la civilisation! Films, meetings, discussions, round tables and exhibits will fill this Francophonie-related week of activities funded by the Secrétariat d'organisation.
